Welcome to the Boston Area Neuroscience Group (BANG), the local Boston-area chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). The BANG steering committee serves as a liason between the Boston neuroscience community and the SfN; We also host Annual Brain Awareness Week events such as the Boston-area Brain Bee and provide student and postdoctoral travel fellowships to the annual SfN meeting. We thank the students and postdoctoral fellows who submitted applications for the Boston Area Neuroscience Group (BANG) travel award competition this year. Based on the submitted abstracts and research descriptions, the steering committee for BANG has chosen three students and one postdoc to receive travel awards. The three students are: Qinghuan Xiao (Northeastern Univ), Seyed Reza Afraz (Harvard Univ) and Stephanie Bostrom (Brandeis Univ). The postdoc winner is Daniela Tropea (MIT). Please join the BANG steering committee in congratulating the 2006 travel award winners.
On February 10, 2007, the second annual Boston Regional Brain Bee (BRBB) will take place at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory of MIT. This year's BRBB event will feature a talk by Dr. Margaret Livingstone of Harvard University and a career path luncheon at which students will have the opportunity to interact with professional neuroscientists. The BRBB is a SfN Brain Awareness Week (BAW) event that is sponsored by the Boston Area Neuroscience Group (BANG) and organized by Michelle Tangredi and Jason Chan of Tufts University School of Medicine. On November 10th, 2005, Boston University and Wyeth Research Location co-sponsored a day-long symposium titled, "Degeneration and Regeneration of the Nervous System". More information can be found at http://lmnsrv.bumc.bu.edu/Wyeth.
