The Graduate Program in Biochemistry is organized around
the conviction that the otherwise bewildering array of biological
phenomena can be understood with the mastery of a few fundamental
chemical principles. The Program trains students to investigate
the molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes
by focusing on the relationship between macromolecular structure
and function. This approach is exemplified by current faculty
research on motor proteins, spliceosomes, membrane receptors,
ion channels, and enzymes.
