This animation provides a simulation of independent vesicles with equal probabilities of response. When the animation loads it chooses a probability p that any given vesicle will fuse with the membrane and release its ACh. For example, suppose p = 0.03 and there are N = 80 vesicles. Therefore each time you push the right arrow button (ie., an impulse is received at the synapse), we expect about Np = (80)x(0.03) = 2.4 of the vesicles to release their ACh. It may be none, or it may be 4, but it's unlikely to be 10. Why? What are the odds?
