MCB Ph.D. Students Receive Funding from NIH Genetics Training Grant & Other Sources

All Ph.D. students in the program are paid stipends through the duration of their graduate training. Students also receive full tuition waivers from the University and comprehensive health benefits. Stipends for incoming Ph.D. students in the 2007-2008 academic year will be $27,500 (for a 12-month period).

At the end of the first year, the Steering Committee of the NIH Genetics Training Grant reviews the progress of all eligible students (US citizens and green card holders) and selects those with superior performance to be supported by the NIH Genetics Training Grant. Students are usually supported for two years from this grant. These students are also eligible to receive travel funds to attend scientific meetings. MCB students serve as teaching assistants in two one-semester laboratory or lecture courses, usually in the second year.
