Description

Appearance: like slimy, greyish-green rat tails

Taste/texture: unpleasant taste and rubbery texture, like octopus tentacles.

Uses: When eaten, Gillyweed causes a person to grow gills and allows him or her to breathe underwater. He or she will develop webbed feet and fingers, making swimming easier. The effect lasts about one hour.

Notable Appearances: In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Dobby gives Harry Gillyweed to help him swim to the bottom of the Hogwarts Lake during the second task
