Description

Cap:1-3 cm (3/8-1 ") wide. Conical to convex, or nearly flat, sometimes with central knob. Smooth, moist, dark brown fading to tan. Zones of different colors from center to margin and cracking with age.

Gills: Attached, nearly distant, broad, dark brown to violet-brown.

Stalk: 4-8 cm (1 5/8- 3 ") long and 1.5-3 mm (1/16-1/8") thick. Pale and smooth.

Spore print: Dark purple-brown

 


Habitat and Range

Individual to numerous on grass. Throughout North America.
