Identify a Specimen by Dichotomous Key

We have assembled a tool to help in identifying a species you see in your travels. By making a series of binary decisions, you will be able to determine the identity of an unknown shrub found in this electronic field guide.

For each characteristic of the shrub presented, select the appropriate feature and this will eventually lead you to the desired species. Some of the characteristics may not be visible, as it may depend on the specific time of year observed. The shrubs identified here do not represent all species in New England, but merely reflect the ones selected and identified by us in the field.
