Diagnostic Features: Small to medium sized spiders, ventral tarsal comb on leg IV and thickened (re-bordered) labium.
Family Distribution: Is often found in caves but is widespread throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and the West Indies
Interesting Natural History Notes: Most species in this family are found in caves, the rest are found in rock crevices in cool areas like near streams and rivers. Only a couple of species are found in cosmopolitan areas.
Origin of Latin Name: From the Greek word meaning 'having to do with spinning'.
