Size: Cap is 7.5-20 cm in diameter, stalk is 7.5-20 cm long, 1-1.5 cm thick

Gills: decurrent , broad, close.

Edibility: Poisonous

Characteristics: Very distinctive bright mushroom, grows in large clusters at the bases of deciduous trees, especially the oaks. The cap start flat but become sunken with age, then becoming wavy and lobed. The caps are dry. The Jack O'Lantern lives acroos the east and also in California. Its season is From July to November
