Flowers in the Snapdragon family are characterized by irregular flower parts, meaning that all the petals of the flowers are not the same size or shape, although some speices have petals that seem regular. Generally they have 5 petals, although some flowers have 4 petals. The 2 top petals are swollen and are generally larger than the 2 or 3 lower petals. They have from 2 to 5 stamens, but sometimes not all of the stamens function. There are about 150 species in our area.
