Virginia Chain Fern

Woodwardia virginica

Habitat: Found in wet areas such as swamps and along the banks of streams; often times submerged in water

Features: Stalk is usually twice as long as the actual leaf; grows in a scattered pattern from the ground; large and coarse; leaves taper at the top and the bottom;

Height: 1-2.5 ft. (30-75 cm.)

Axis: Dark purple at base and becomes green at top

Stalk: Red/purple/brown with a few scales at the base
