Metasequoia glyptostroboides

The species of the genus Metasequoia were known only from fossils of the Cenozoic era until a population of mature living trees were found in China in the 1940's. Seeds were brought back to the United States at the end of the 1940's and the tree became a popular ornamental specimen. Click on the Dawn Redwood to the left for more information.
