Description: Nemobius fasciatus are usually 7.2-11.5 mm in length and vary in color from a dark reddish-brown to black. Their tegmina (front wings) and wings are often in the same place and can be long or short. They are very common and are found in a wide range of places. The adults reach maturity in July and live until it gets too cold and the frost kills them. The sounds of ground crickets include quiet and high pitched pulsating buzzes or trills.
Habitat: Ground crickets are commonly found on the ground in fields, and in wooded areas. The specimen in the photos was found in early October in Belmont, MA. |
