   Applying to the Genetic Counseling Program, Admission and Financial Aid

In addition to a bachelor's degree, applicants should have completed the following courses:

  • one year of general chemistry;
  • one year of biology;
  • one semester of genetics (course should include both Mendelian and molecular); and
  • one semester each of organic chemistry, biochemistry, psychology and statistics.

Applicants lacking one or more of these courses are invited to consult the program's director on how to fulfill these requirements. Volunteer or work experience in an area elated to counseling, developmental disabilities or genetics is also recommended.

The application for admissions should be completed and returned in duplicate by February 1 for admission the following fall. Applicants intending to apply for financial aid should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to the Graduate School along with their application. All applicants must also submit a personal statement, results of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and forward, in duplicate, official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work. In addition, they must submit three letters of recommendation. After initial review of applications, selected candidates will be invited to visit Brandeis for a personal interview.

Brandeis is now accepting electronic letters of recommendation. Include the email addresses of your referees with your application for admission and we will contact your referees directly.
