PhD application deadline is
December 1, 2017

Applying to the Graduate Program in Biochemistry and Biophysics

It is strongly preferred that you submit your application online through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) website.

NOTE: the M.S. cohort is full for fall 2016; please check back in September 2017 for the application for fall 2017 admission.

Applicants must take the GRE aptitude examinations and are encouraged to take one advanced subject exam. Students will be admitted on the basis of academic records, GRE scores, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation from at least three faculty members. MS applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation, but three letters are recommended. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline from an accredited institution.  We recommend that applicants have had course-experience in calculus, physics, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry.

The deadline to apply to the Ph.D. program is December 1st. Late applications may be considered, but first consideration will be given to applications received by the deadline. The Biochemistry & Biophysics Ph.D. program will begin reviewing applications in early December. Incoming students begin the program at the end of August.

The Biochemistry & Biophysics Master’s program accepts applications for the Fall semester only. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until May 1st; application review begins in January. Please note that the application may be closed earlier if the desired cohort size is reached prior to May 1. As we cannot predict when we will complete the admission cycle each year, applicants are advised to submit applications as early as possible.

Visits to Brandeis

Applicants are encouraged to visit Brandeis to meet with students and faculty. Such visits are scheduled by the admissions committee or at the request of the applicant. Applicants should use the second page of the online application to list the names of the faculty with whom they wish to meet during their visit.  Notifications of acceptance or rejection are sent out as decisions are reached but no later than mid-April.
