Motor Behaviors
We are also interested in
the generation of larval motor behaviors. Recording from motor neurons
in the third instar larval brain allows one to measure output of the
central pattern generator that underlies locomotion. Very little is
known about the role of motor neurons in this circuit and how the behavior
of this subpopulation of cells contributes to locomotion. Linking the
activity of these neurons to simple crawling behavior or more complex
roll over behaviors may help us define the circuits that drive locomotion
(figure 1).
