Final Projects

Students are asked to form into groups of 2-4. By January 22nd, please send a single email either stating that you would like me to place you in a group, or send one email from the group you have formed listing the members and their email addresses. The final projects will focus on a particular disease or set of related diseases of your choosing. The project will consist of a paper and a poster summarizing the paper.

You may select one of two formats for the paper:

  1. A critical review: A review of what is known about the neurobiological basis of a particular disease or treatment modality highlighting and critically evaluating a particular theory or point of view.
  2. A research proposal: a paper outlining a hypothesis about the neurobiological basis of a particular disease or treatment modality and a set of experiments to test that hypothesis.

Further details about the two formats will be provided later.

The projects will be completed in stages.

February 14 Each group must submit (electronically) a brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the general topic and 2-4 specific hypotheses to be further researched (1 per person in the group).
March 5 Groups must meet to share research, decide on one hypothesis to follow up on and assign tasks to members
March 16 Each group must submit a draft background section, a draft bibliography and a detailed outline
April 13 Penultimate draft due
May 2 Revised final draft and poster due.
