Spectrometers:

Inova 400:

This spectrometer is scheduled as a walk-up instrument during the day. Longer blocks of time can be scheduled at night and on the weekends. There is an on-line calendar available from campus computers (http://calendar.chem.brandeis.edu/NMR). Brandeis users should consult the Inova 400 policies page (https://wiki.brandeis.edu/twiki/bin/view/Chem/VarianInova400) for detailed information about setting up accounts and scheduling of the spectrometer. While the spectrometer is heavily used by the Chemistry Department, outside users can sometimes be accommodated. Outside (industrial or non-Brandeis academic) users should contact Sara Kunz (781-736-2840).

Inova 500 and 600:

These instruments are primarily used in 1-day to 1-week blocks of time. There is a weekly scheduling meeting (Wednesday, 1:30pm, Kern labs, 4th floor Volen) to determine the following week's schedule. Heaviest usage is by the Pochapsky, Kern and Redfield research groups, however, we do try and accommodate any Brandeis researchers that require the higher field in order to conduct their research. Training of new students in the above mentioned groups is conducted within each group. Training and/or assistance for other Brandeis researchers can be arranged by contacting Sara Kunz (6-2840). Occasionally, time is available for users outside Brandeis (academic and industrial) and can be arranged by contacting Sara Kunz (781-736-2840).
Avance 800:
The 800 MHz spectrometer is a state-of-the-art instrument dedicated to biomolecular NMR research. It is housed in its own building and has separate operating policies, since it is part of a regional facility. All NIH-funded researchers employing solution state NMR techniques in their biological research are eligible to use the spectrometer. New users must register online (providing contact and funding info) and time requests are accepted online for the following month. Scheduling is done one month at a time. All users are required to view the SCMF Magnet Safety video and sign the consent agreement before receiving any spectrometer time. Users are also required to demonstrate sufficient proficiency on the spectrometer or request training/assistance from Prof. Sue Pochapsky (781-736-2543).
