Lipid droplet

Lipid droplets in this animation are not drawn to scale. In vivo, they are about 0.5 µm in diameter, i.e. one-thousand-fold smaller than the long axis of the embryo.

One embryo contains many hundreds of thousands of droplets.

This cartoon illustrates features of net transport of the droplets during development. Individual droplets undergo rapid, bi-directional motion.
