The building with the pyres is a school, St. George's if I recall.

At one end of the beach is a rock formation with a chasm down the middle.

There's a bridge across it.
It's on the order of eight feet across, far (and deep) enough that no sane person would jump across it.
("Hey, I saw this in Blade Runner...")
